Leave a gift in your Will
Bowel cancer is the UK's second biggest cancer killer. Almost 16,000 people die from bowel cancer in the UK every year. We are determined to change this. Our aim is that by 2025 the number of people surviving bowel cancer within five years of diagnosis will increase from 60% to 75%.
You can help us to achieve this by leaving a gift in your Will. Leaving a gift in your Will is easier than you might imagine, and however big or small, it will help to save lives in the future.
Anne’s good friend John died at the age of 48 from bowel cancer in 2004. She has left us a gift in her Will and says:
How do I leave a gift in my Will?
You must consider the needs of your family and any dependents first. Once they have been taken care of, you can help stop bowel cancer by leaving a gift in your Will.
It is advised to have a Will drafted by a lawyer or a professional Will writer. You should review your Will after major life events to ensure it reflects changes in your circumstances.
Make your Will for free
McClure Solicitors are an established, national firm of solicitors who will make your Will for free (a Will can cost up to £150). They will also review any existing Will you may have to ensure it is watertight and does what you intend. They will ask you to make a donation of your choice to Bowel Cancer UK instead of paying a fee to them.
McClure Solicitors have 11 offices across England and Scotland and may travel into Wales for appointments on request.
We are also a member of Remember a Charity. You can find a solicitor and other useful advice on their website.
How your gift gives hope
Your gift will make such a difference to our work. For example, we have recently invited applications for our first round of research grants and are focusing on;
- Improvements to screening to improve early diagnosis rates
- Better identification and monitoring of high risk groups
- Continuing our work to improve diagnosis, treatment and care of patients under 50
Our research is complemented by our campaigning and awareness raising work, which also focus on improving treatment and improving early diagnosis.
A gift in your Will could result in real change in the way bowel cancer patients are diagnosed and treated saving thousands of lives in the future.
