Help us to stop bowel cancer

Our work in England

We undertake a range of activities in England as part of our work to save lives and improve the quality of life for all those affected by bowel cancer.

We raise awareness

Volunteers in England, who have been affected by bowel cancer in some way, deliver talks to groups in local communities and workplaces helping people to understand the signs and symptoms and risk factors. Book a talk

We campaign

Our campaigning and policy work covers issues affecting people right across the UK.

Our campaign ‘Right test, Right time’ highlights the challenges facing endoscopy services across the UK. Through our research we found serious issues with endoscopy services in England, with rising demand as well as varying quality in services and waiting times.

We issued Freedom of Information (FOI) requests to all health authorities in the UK to determine whether they are implementing nationally recommended Lynch syndrome testing for people diagnosed with bowel cancer under the age of 50. Just half of the hospital trusts in England who responded to the request said they conduct tests among bowel cancer patients under 50 with 10 of the trusts saying they had no plans to do so. We are continuing to campaign on the inequalities in access to drugs in all four UK nations. Our work on advanced bowel cancer and long term access to treatment reflects the inequality created by the Cancer Drugs Fund in England. As survival rates from advanced bowel cancer are so low, it is imperative that NHS England publish new proposals for sustainable access to effective cancer medicines as soon as possible. We encourage people to take part in the NHS bowel cancer screening programme

Bowel cancer screening can save lives but at the moment in some areas of England only a third of those who receive a test complete it. Thousands of people are missing out on the chance to detect bowel cancer early when it is easier to treat. Find out more about the NHS bowel cancer screening programme
