Beating bowel cancer together

Don't miss out on the patient day in Glasgow

Wednesday 24 January 2018

If you’ve been affected by bowel cancer, don’t miss out on the chance to attend our very first Scottish Patient Day at the Queen Elizabeth Teaching and Learning Centre, Glasgow on Saturday 24 February 2018 from 9.30am – 4.30pm.

The free event will bring together current and former patients, colorectal nurses, carers, and others affected by bowel cancer. There will be a chance to share experiences, take part in interactive workshops, an exhibition and presentations about lifestyle changes during and after cancer treatment, surgery and chemotherapy options as well as the psychological and emotional effects of a cancer diagnosis.

Speakers will include bowel cancer consultants, colorectal surgeons, oncologists, psychologists, genetic counsellors and patients as well as the charity’s Chief Executive Deborah Alsina MBE.

Claire Donaghy, Head of Scotland, says: “We are thrilled to be holding our first ever Scottish Patient Day. We welcome bowel cancer patients and their loved ones to join us for a day that will offer information, support and inspiration.”

Bruce Cutler 67, from Glasgow, will be speaking at the day about his bowel cancer experience. Bruce was diagnosed with the disease through a routine home screening kit at the age of 65 after having very few symptoms.

Bruce says: “It came as a shock to find out I had abnormal screening results. After a colonoscopy they found a tumour in my bowel which was confirmed as being at stage 2.

“I try to always maintain a positive outlook, aided in no small way by the fantastic support I’ve received from my family and close friends through this time.”

The day is being organised with the Scottish Colorectal Cancer Nurses Group and is supported by Norgine and Convatec.
