Support our Research Team
Research is a key part of our work towards a future where nobody dies of bowel cancer and you can use your experiences to shape it. With you involved, we'll make sure bowel cancer research is working towards what is most important for patients.
Join our Research Network
We’re looking for people to join our Research Network, a virtual group of volunteers who help shape bowel cancer research studies to focus on the outcomes that matter most to patients.
There are lots of activities to get involved with, from reviewing everyday language summaries of grant applications and giving feedback on grant proposals, to co-designing research projects with researchers.
We’re looking for volunteers of all ages and backgrounds from across the UK — we’re particularly keen to hear from people under 50 years old and those from ethnic minority communities. Also, you don’t need a background in science or healthcare, just an interest in shaping research with your lived experience. Involvement opportunities are shared with the Network as they arise and members can choose which ones to participate in, allowing you to fit them around your existing commitments.
If you've been personally affected by bowel cancer, are comfortable sharing your views in a group and open to listening to others and have an interest in research, read our role description and volunteer today.
Lay Review Panel
We’re looking for people who have been personally affected by bowel cancer, and have previous research involvement experience, to join our Lay Review Panel.
The Panel are a group of patient representatives who play a vital role in deciding which research projects we fund. Each year, they review the applications we receive for research funding and assess whether the proposed projects are practical from a patient’s perspective. They also evaluate how patient involvement and experiences have been incorporated into the research. Some members also represent the Panel at our Scientific Advisory Board meetings, working alongside scientists and clinicians to guide funding decisions.
If you can commit to reviewing funding applications, as well as attending two to three meetings a year (virtual or hybrid) and would like to get involved, find out more in our role description and apply below.
