We’re bringing our giant inflatable bowel to Derry-Londonderry

Wednesday 14 August 2024

This August, we’re delighted to be bringing our awareness roadshow to Derry-Londonderry and will be inviting locals to walk inside a giant inflatable bowel to learn about bowel cancer — the fourth most common cancer in Northern Ireland.

The giant inflatable bowel measures nineteen feet by seven feet - about the same size as a family campervan - and is an interactive experience to demonstrate the various stages of bowel cancer. A walk through the bowel will help raise awareness of bowel cancersymptoms, the importance of taking part inscreening, and good bowel health.

Our roadshow gives people a chance to ask any questions or share any worries about bowel cancer with one of our friendly and experienced staff and volunteers.

Come and chat to us on:

  • Tuesday 20 August from 10am – 4pm outside Guildhall Square (Guildhall, Guildhall Square, Derry-Londonderry, BT48 6DQ)
  • Wednesday 21 August from 10am – 4pm outside Guildhall Square (Guildhall, Guildhall Square, Derry-Londonderry, BT48 6DQ)
  • Thursday 22 August from 10am – 4pm Lisnagelvin Shopping Centre (Lisnagelvin Road, Derry-Londonderry, BT476DF)

Genevieve Edwards, Chief Executive at Bowel Cancer UK, said: “We’re really looking forward to talking to lots of people in Derry-Londonderry about the disease, the importance of knowing its symptoms, and why you should contact your GP as soon as you spot any signs. We'll be encouraging everyone who is eligible to take part in bowel cancer screening, and talking about how people can reduce their risk of developing bowel cancer.

“We know that awareness of bowel cancer and its symptoms is quite low in Derry-Londonderry, so we hope our giant inflatable bowel is a fun way to break the ice and start having those lifesaving conversations.

“We’re here to welcome everyone to a tour of the giant inflatable bowel, answer any questions you have about your bowel health, and signpost you for further support. No appointment necessary. See you inside!”

The Bowel Cancer UK’s roadshows are funded by the BowelBabe Fund.
