Rugby star Matt Dawson calls on people to spring into action this April to raise funds for bowel cancer
Monday 6 March 2023
Our patron, former England rugby captain Matt Dawson MBE, is backing our latest fundraising campaign, ActiveApril, and calling on everyone to join in.
Taking part is really simple. Just get sponsored to walk, run or stretch every day in April, which happens to be Bowel Cancer Awareness Month.
All money raised from the challenge will help stop people dying of bowel cancer – the UK's second biggest cancer killer. How you take part is up to you, whether it's a dance class, jogging to the top of the nearest hill, or aiming for the top of the stairs.
Matt Dawson MBE, one of our patrons, says: "Someone is diagnosed with bowel cancer every 15 minutes in the UK, so by the time you've walked (almost) a mile, swum a few lengths in the pool or cycled to the park, someone will have heard the words: you've got bowel cancer. With my family history of the disease, I'm all too aware of the importance of taking part in regular physical exercise to reduce my risk of bowel cancer. That's why I’m delighted to be supporting ActiveApril."
Luke Squires, our Director of Fundraising, said: "Taking part in ActiveApril is a really fun way to get moving this spring. And not only will you feel fitter and healthier, every penny you raise will help us make more people aware of the signs and symptoms of the disease, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, fund vital research, and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care. What are you waiting for? Put on your trainers and join us."
