Beating bowel cancer together

Our Health Promotion Volunteer Programme wins national award

Leading charity Bowel Cancer UK is delighted to have won one of the Health and Wellbeing Awards from the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) for their Health Promotion Volunteer Programme.

The two year award is given by the RSPH to organisations which have implemented a health improvement strategy that is measurable, effective and efficient, enabling the individuals and communities served to improve their health.

Gail Curry, Head of Health Promotion and Training for Bowel Cancer UK said, "We are absolutely thrilled to have been given this award.  It's a tribute to the dedication of our small yet highly committed health promotion team, including many volunteers who help us save lives and improve the quality of life for all those affected by bowel cancer.  We're incredibly grateful to our fantastic volunteers, without whom this award wouldn't have been possible."

Bowel Cancer UK's health promotion work is at the heart of the charity, raising awareness of bowel cancer - its symptoms, risks and prevention, including screening. The health promotion team works with community groups and workplaces throughout the UK to improve public knowledge of bowel health messages.

Shirley Cramer CBE, Chief Executive of RSPH said, "Bowel Cancer UK has demonstrated a strong commitment to the prevention and early detection of bowel cancer by harnessing and supporting the motivation and willingness to help sufferers of cancer, their friends and families.  The RSPH would like to commend the well designed training programme and feedback tools, which were demonstrated to be effective and appropriate for the programme."

"The RSPH has a long history of promoting good practice in public health and we are proud of our Health and Wellbeing Awards which provide a stage to celebrate the great work of organisation's across the country regardless of their sector, size and setting. It was an extremely competitive field this year and I would like to congratulate our 2015 winners who are all exemplars of innovative, progressive programmes to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. I hope that their effective programmes will be adopted and celebrated elsewhere."
