Ocado Retail joins our #GetOnARoll campaign
Friday 10 February 2023
Ocado Retail is the latest supermarket signed up to our #GetOnARoll campaign to launch their toilet roll packs displaying bowel cancer symptoms. They're also first to add the symptoms to their packs of moist wipes.
The new packaging has launched this month, helping to raise vital awareness of the symptoms of bowel cancer.
Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK – with almost 43,000 people diagnosed every year – but worryingly almost half of adults in the UK can't name a single symptom of bowel cancer.
Knowing the symptoms, and acting on them quickly, means that bowel cancer can be diagnosed earlier, vastly improving survival rates. Red flag symptoms include blood in your poo and changes in your bowel habits, which you'll notice while on the toilet, which is why we've been calling for retailers to add the symptoms to toilet roll packaging.
As part of the campaign, Ocado Retail has also donated £25,000 to us to help fund future initiatives to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer.
Genevieve Edwards, Chief Executive of Bowel Cancer UK, said: "We're delighted that Ocado Retail has added symptoms of bowel cancer to their packs of wipes and toilet rolls as part of our #GetOnARoll campaign to raise vital awareness of bowel cancer. The disease is the second biggest cancer killer in the UK, but currently fewer than 40% of people are diagnosed at the earlier stages, when it is easier to treat.
"Having the symptoms on packs of wipes and toilet roll packaging should encourage people to contact their GP quickly if they spot any symptoms, and hopefully, get an earlier diagnosis. This brilliant continued partnership with Ocado could help millions of people across the UK know the signs to look out for, and will undoubtedly save lives from bowel cancer in the future."
Rachel Cox-Reynolds, Director of Own Brand and Technical at Ocado Retail said: "We're proud to be able to play a small part in Bowel Cancer UK's #GetOnARoll campaign. By donating much needed funds and adding the signs and symptoms to Ocado's Own-Range moist wipes and toilet rolls, we hope to help make a difference, and raise vital awareness amongst our customers."
Ocado Retail is one of ten retailers already signed up to #GetOnARoll, including M&S, Andrex and Asda.
The #GetOnARoll campaign asked supermarkets across the country to display bowel cancer symptoms on their own brand toilet roll – where people need to see them most – to raise vital awareness of bowel cancer symptoms.
