Co-op joins our #GetOnARoll campaign to raise awareness of bowel cancer
Friday 8 July 2022
Co-op is the latest food retailer to join our #GetOnARoll campaign, and has today announced it will be printing the symptoms of bowel cancer across their own-brand loo rolls to raise awareness of bowel cancer symptoms – and we couldn't be more thrilled.
Bowel cancer is the UK's fourth most common cancer and the second biggest cancer killer. Yet almost half of adults around the UK couldn't name a single symptom of bowel cancer in a recent survey. Red flag symptoms include changes in bowel habit, bleeding from your bottom and blood in your poo, which can all be noticed while people are on the toilet.
Knowing the symptoms to look out for, and acting on them by visiting their GP, can lead to bowel cancer being diagnosed at an earlier stage when it is easier to treat and even cure.
The first toilet roll pack to include the potentially life-saving information will hit Co-op shelves this autumn. There will also be a handy QR code on the pack for customers to find out more about the signs and symptoms to look out for.
Genevieve Edwards, Chief Executive at Bowel Cancer UK, said: "It's wonderful that Co-op has joined our #GetOnARoll campaign to help raise vital awareness of bowel cancer symptoms. Every 15 minutes someone is diagnosed with the disease in the UK – that's nearly 43,000 people every year.
"This brilliant partnership with Co-op will help millions of people across the UK know the signs to look out for, and will undoubtedly save lives from bowel cancer in the future."
