Come and chat to us in Belfast and walk inside a giant inflatable bowel
Friday 29 September 2023
We’re inviting Belfast locals to walk inside a giant inflatable bowel when it tours the city in October to raise awareness of bowel cancer – Northern Ireland’s second biggest cancer killer.
The giant inflatable bowel – measuring 19 feet by seven feet – is an interactive experience to demonstrate the various stages of bowel cancer, and raise awareness of its symptoms, the importance of taking part in screening and learn about good bowel health.
It’s also a chance for people to ask any questions or share any worries about bowel cancer, whether about themselves, a loved one or friend, to one of our friendly and experienced staff and volunteers.
Come and chat to us on:
- Monday 16 October from 11am – 2.30pm at Parliament Buildings, Stormont Estate (BT4 3LP)
- Tuesday 17 October from 10am – 4pm at the Abbey Centre (Newtownabbey BT37 9UH)
- Wednesday 18 October from 10am – 4pm at the Park Centre (Donegall Road BT12 6HN)
Genevieve Edwards, Chief Executive at Bowel Cancer UK, says: “We’re really looking forward to talking to lots of people in Belfast about the disease, its symptoms, the importance of taking part in bowel cancer screening and how people can reduce their risk of developing bowel cancer.
“Our first stop in Belfast is at Stormont where we hope to emphasise the significance of early diagnosis of bowel cancer to those in power, as well as the public.
“We know that awareness of bowel cancer in Belfast is quite low with over a quarter of locals (26%) unaware of any of the symptoms of the disease. We hope our giant inflatable bowel is a fun way to break the ice and start having those lifesaving conversations. We’re here to welcome everyone to a tour of the giant inflatable bowel, answer any questions you have about your bowel health, and signpost you for further support. No appointment necessary. See you inside!”
Our roadshows are funded by the BowelBabe Fund.
