Join our 'Living well with advanced bowel cancer' online support event this November.
Delivered by health professionals, this event will provide information to help you feel more informed and better able to cope with advanced bowel cancer.
This event will cover:
- the different types of surgery for bowel cancer
- the treatment pathway
- how to get involved in clinical trials
- bowel problems after treatment
- emotional wellbeing and difficult conversations
You'll be able to ask our experts questions on the day too.
This event has been developed for our advanced bowel cancer community, including friends and family of those with advanced disease.
Advanced bowel cancer is when cancer has spread from the bowel to other organs in the body. You may also hear it being called secondary, metastatic or stage 4 bowel cancer.
To join the event you'll need to download Zoom to a laptop, computer, smartphone or tablet with sound and be connected to the internet.
About the speakers
Filipe Carvalho
Nurse Consultant in Colorectal Disease, Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Chair of the National Colorectal Cancer Nurses Network
Filipe has recently started a new role as Nurse Consultant in Colorectal Disease at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
His experience includes working at the Royal Marsden Hospital for 13 years, where his last role was as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Colorectal Surgery, supporting patients with a variety of advanced colorectal cancers, who required complex surgeries.
Filipe holds an MSc in Advanced Practice in Clinical Cancer Care, has worked in several service development initiatives, has published on a variety of topics and was the recipient of a Gary Logue Colorectal Cancer Nurse Award in 2021.
Professor Richard Wilson
Professor of Gastrointestinal Oncology, University of Glasgow and Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology, Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre
Richard trained in oncology in Northern Ireland, Scotland, and the USA. Since then, he's worked in Belfast and now Glasgow, in joint University/NHS positions in clinical care and research in bowel cancer, and in early and late phase cancer clinical trials. Richard is passionate about improving outcomes for bowel cancer patients.
Rachael Edwards
Clinical Endoscopist and Clinical Nurse Specialist in Gastroenterology, University Hospital Llandough
Rachael is a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Endoscopist based in Cardiff. Part of Rachael's role is to hold clinics for patients who have been experiencing bowel problems after having cancer treatment.
Dee Holmes
Clinical Services Manager, Relate
Dee is a qualified counsellor and supervisor in Couple, Family, Young Persons and Children’s counselling. She’s worked for Relate for 25 years, with the last eight in her current role in the Senior Clinical Team. Dee is also the Safeguarding Lead for Relate.
