We've been selected as charity of the year for Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council
We are delighted to have been announced as one of the three chosen charities for the 2016/7 year for Stockton-On-Tees Borough Council, following the Annual Meeting of the Council and Mayoral Installation on 6 April.
Bowel Cancer UK will be working closely with Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council in several areas to raise the profile of the disease, from training volunteers in the North East about bowel cancer to holding fundraising events.
“We are delighted that the Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees has chosen to support Bowel Cancer UK in 2016/2017. Without this valuable support, Bowel Cancer UK couldn’t continue with our vital research and lifesaving work to stop bowel cancer and improve the quality of life for all those affected by bowel cancer. We are all very much looking forward to developing a great working partnership with everyone at Stockton-On-Tees Borough Council over the next 12 months.”
The announcement comes during Bowel Cancer Awareness Month in April, when the charity is raising awareness of its vital, life-saving work.
As 2016 marks the ten year anniversary of the introduction of bowel cancer screening in England, Bowel Cancer UK is urging people during Bowel Cancer Awareness Month to spread the word among their family, friends and colleagues to take part in screening.
Bowel cancer screening can save lives but at the moment in some areas of England only a third of those who receive a test complete it. Thousands of people are missing out on the chance to detect bowel cancer early when it is easier to treat.
