We’re bringing our awareness roadshow to Hull with a live visit from ITV’s Lorraine
Friday 12 April 2024
This April, we’re inviting Hull locals to walk inside a giant inflatable bowel when it tours the city to raise awareness of bowel cancer – the fourth most common cancer in the UK.
The first of the three roadshows in the city will be part of an exciting live broadcast marking Bowel Cancer Awareness Month for ITV’s Lorraine, which will visit the roadshow outside St Stephen’s Shopping Centre on Tuesday 16 April. TV star and radio presenter Adele Roberts, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2021, and resident doctor for ITV’s Lorraine Dr Amir Khan, will be there to speak to a number of locals about their experiences of bowel cancer.
The giant inflatable bowel – measuring 19 feet by seven feet – is an interactive experience to demonstrate the various stages of bowel cancer, and raise awareness of its symptoms, the importance of taking part in screening and learn about good bowel health.
It’s also a chance for people to ask any questions or share any worries about bowel cancer, whether about themselves, a loved one or friend, to one of our friendly and experienced staff and volunteers.
Come and chat to us on:
- Tuesday 16 April from 8.30am – 4pm outside St Stephens Shopping Centre (110 Ferensway, Hull HU2 8LN)
- Wednesday 17 April from 10am – 4pm outside Hull City Hall (Queen Victoria Square, Carr Ln, Hull HU1 3RQ)
- Thursday 18 April from 10am – 4pm outside Morrisons (716 – 718, Holderness Road, Hull, HU9 3JA) with an additional awareness stand at Asda Superstore (Mount Pleasant, Hull HU9 2BN)
Genevieve Edwards, Chief Executive at Bowel Cancer UK, said: “We’re delighted that ITV Lorraine will be visiting our Hull Roadshow as part of their No Butt’s campaign for Bowel Cancer Awareness Month. We’re really looking forward to talking to lots of people in Hull about the disease, its symptoms, the importance of taking part in bowel cancer screening and how people can reduce their risk of developing bowel cancer.
“We know that awareness of bowel cancer and its symptoms is quite low in Hull. We hope our giant inflatable bowel is a fun way to break the ice and start having those lifesaving conversations. We’re here to welcome everyone to a tour of the giant inflatable bowel, answer any questions you have about your bowel health, and signpost you for further support. No appointment necessary. See you inside!”
