We're the UK's leading bowel cancer charity

We’re bringing together the voices of people affected by bowel cancer

We want a future where nobody dies of bowel cancer, but we can’t achieve this alone. Today we’re launching a campaign calling on all political parties to take urgent action to address the biggest challenges facing people affected by bowel cancer. To make our voice heard we need to hear from everyone impacted by the disease.

Every 15 minutes in the UK somebody is diagnosed with bowel cancer. It doesn’t just impact the person diagnosed, it affects families, friends and colleagues, doctors and nurses, scientists and researchers - that’s millions of people right across the UK.

Why it matters

The UK Government has promised that in the next 10 years three out of four cancers will be diagnosed at an early, more treatable stage. This is achievable, but right now NHS services are facing unprecedented pressure and the UK’s cancer survival rates are lagging behind comparable countries meaning people affected by bowel cancer are not receiving the best treatment and care.

Politicians play a vital part in helping us making improvements, but with a UK General Election on the horizon and politics changing daily, it’s harder than ever to get them to listen. That’s why we’re launching this campaign calling for urgent action.

What are we calling for?

To save more lives from bowel cancer, all political parties must help make sure that everyone affected by the disease receives the best treatment and care by committing to:

  • Investing in early diagnosis by delivering improvements to bowel cancer screening
  • Tackling staff shortages to address the capacity crisis in the NHS endoscopy and pathology services that diagnose bowel cancer
  • Securing better outcomes for younger bowel cancer patients and those at high risk of developing the disease
  • Ensuring advanced bowel cancer patients are given access to the best treatment and care

It’s time to make our voice heard

We can help stop people dying of the disease, but with the current political turmoil we need help from all those affected by bowel cancer to make politicians listen. This is an opportunity for everyone affected by bowel cancer to add their voice and tell us why these issues matter to you. We'll use the experiences shared to make politicians understand how they can help.

Margaret, pictured, lost her daughter Annabel to the disease and sadly she isn’t alone. Bowel cancer is the UK’s second biggest cancer killer, but it doesn’t have to be.  This cancer is treatable and curable, especially when diagnosed early. Join us and help save more lives.
