The Gary Logue Colorectal Cancer Nurse Award Winners

Wednesday 29 September 2021

We're delighted to announce the winners of the prestigious seventh annual Gary Logue Colorectal Cancer Nurse Awards.

The awards showcase the achievements of colorectal nurses who have made a huge difference to both the lives of their patients and their colleagues during the last year.

The winner of the award for a nurse nominated by their colleagues is Filipe Carvalho from the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. The judges were particularly impressed by his excellent quality of care and his leadership while setting up and running a COVID cancer hub. The hub saw over 200 patients with colorectal cancer from hospitals across his network undergoing surgery in two COVID free hospital sites.

The runners up are: Claire Stephens from Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Colorectal nursing team from Salford Royal Foundation Trust.

The winner for the award for a nurse nominated by a patient is Lauren McCrisken from Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The judges were delighted to hear the outstanding care Lauren was providing her patients which was evident by her nomination.

The runners up are: Anne Lauder from Glasgow Oncology Clinic at BMI Ross Hall Hospital and Anne Moutadjer from St Mary's Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

A special thank you goes to Charlene White, ITN newsreader and patron of the charity, for presenting these special awards at the National Colorectal Cancer Nurses Network (NCCNN) virtual study day on Wednesday 29 September.

Catherine Winsor, Director of Services at Bowel Cancer UK, said: "We asked healthcare professionals and patients to nominate their inspirational colleagues and colorectal cancer nurses, those who make a huge difference to the lives of everyone they reach. All the colorectal nurses nominated have demonstrated exceptional care throughout the challenges of the pandemic, and for that we thank them wholeheartedly. A huge well done to Filipe and Lauren for their outstanding work over the last year."

The awards were set up in memory of Gary Logue, who worked as a nurse for the charity and passed away in 2014, in honour of the tireless dedication he showed during his career.
