Thursday 26 February 2026
Former Canadian National Hockey League (NHL) player Ron Duguay has been diagnosed with bowel cancer, also known as colon cancer.
He was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer last year and has since had an operation to remove his appendix and gallbladder.
His family have set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the cost of treatment.
Genevieve Edwards, Chief Executive at Bowel Cancer UK, says: “We are sorry to hear that Ron Duguay has been diagnosed with bowel cancer. We wish him all the best for his ongoing treatment.
“Here in the UK every 12 minutes someone is diagnosed with bowel cancer, making it the fourth most common cancer.
“Bowel cancer is treatable and curable, especially if diagnosed early. Whatever your age, if you’re experiencing symptoms of bowel cancer like bleeding from your bottom, blood in your poo or a change in your pooing habits, please contact your GP to ask for an at-home test. And we encourage anyone receiving a bowel screening test at any time to complete and return it.”
