We're the UK's leading bowel cancer charity

See who won this year’s Gary Logue Awards!

Wednesday 1 October 2025

We're delighted to announce the winners of the 2025 Gary Logue Colorectal Cancer Nurse Awards, which this year went to nurses hailing from North West England and East Anglia.

Every year, the Gary Logue Awards mark the achievements of colorectal nurses who make a significant impact on those affected by bowel cancer, provide exceptional care and show outstanding initiative.

The awards were established in memory of Gary Logue to honour the contribution he made to those affected by bowel cancer during his career. Gary worked for us as a specialist nurse advisor and passed away in 2014.

The winner of this year’s award for nurses nominated by their colleagues is:

  • Rachel Quinn, Colorectal Nurse Specialist Team Leader at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Sharing their reasons for selecting Rachel as the winner, the judges said: “Patient care is at the heart of Rachel’s work.

“Rachel’s dedication to enhancing services within her team and maintaining patient dignity shows an admirable level of professionalism, expertise and compassion. She is a natural leader with a commitment to delivering high quality care.

“Whether advocating for her patients or skilfully implementing innovative services, her contributions significantly benefit both patients and colleagues.”

The runners-up in this category were Gemma Pocock from Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Vanessa Shearwood at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The winner of the award for a nurse nominated by patients and their families is:

  • Charlotte Brown, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Colorectal Oncology at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust

The judges said they were ‘deeply touched’ by the nomination for Charlotte, who truly goes above and beyond her nursing duties.

“Through unwavering dedication and exceptional clinical care, Charlotte empowers her patients by providing compassionate and expert support,” the judges said.

“Charlotte’s tireless work and determination to do the best by her patients is evident in the lasting impact of her patients’ care, enabling them to hold on to their worth and keep living well.”

Other nurses recognised in the patient and family award category were Louise Roberts from George Elliot Hospitals Trust, and Nichola Ritchie at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Our ambassador Dr Anisha Patel presented these special awards at the National Colorectal Cancer Nurses Network (NCCNN) Annual Education Event on Tuesday 30 September.

The winners have each received £300 bursaries which can be used towards professional development, training opportunities for them or their team, or enhancing the patient experience.

Claire Coughlan, Clinical Lead at Bowel Cancer UK, said: “We’re incredibly proud to hear about the exceptional care, support and initiative shown by all our winners, finalists and nominees at this year’s Gary Logue Awards.

“Across the country, colorectal cancer nurses make an enormous difference to patients and their families though guiding them through what can be an incredibly difficult time in their lives. We're proud to continue to recognise and champion these nurses and thank them wholeheartedly for their work.

“Our huge congratulations go to Rachel and Charlotte for their outstanding work in the last year and their unfailing commitment to caring for and improving the quality of life of those affected by bowel cancer.”
