Bowel Cancer UK nominated for Moondance Cancer Award
Friday 10 June 2022
We are delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for a Moondance Cancer Award in the category of ‘Public Awareness and Engagement’.
The Moondance Cancer Awards celebrate and spotlight brilliant people across NHS Wales and its partners who have maintained and innovated cancer services, despite the extraordinary circumstances of the last two years.
Moondance Cancer Initiative hosts these awards, to thank people who have worked – and continue to work - tirelessly across all stages of cancer detection, diagnosis and treatment pathways; and to showcase that improvement is happening.
In a short space of time our newly formed team in Wales has started delivering a number of streams of public awareness and engagement work. The team of staff and volunteers have been shortlisted for an award for their awareness programme in Wales.
The team of volunteers, with personal experience of bowel cancer, have been delivering free online bowel cancer awareness talks to workplaces and community groups in Wales. The small team delivered talks to an impressive 311 people in Wales up until April 2022. Almost all attendees said the talks were ‘very good’ or ‘excellent’. Recently the team have also been able to deliver these talks in Welsh, making it possible to reach even more communities in Wales.
The Moondance Cancer Awards winners will be announced on 16 June 2022.
Catherine Winsor, Director of Services at Bowel Cancer UK, comments: “It’s fantastic that the team have been nominated for this award in recognition of their awareness raising and engagement in Wales. Almost 2,300 people in Wales are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year, and it’s vital that everyone knows the signs and symptoms to look out for. What this team have achieved in just a year is incredible.”
