Bowel Cancer UK is the UK's leading bowel cancer charity. We're determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. We support and fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.
About the service
Ask the Nurse is an online service for people to ask questions about bowel cancer. The nurses provide information in response to these queries, and signpost people to further support. Ask the Nurse isn't a clinical advice service but provides information and signposting. Queries are received via email to the generic Ask the Nurse email service or via the charities phone line. Whilst it's predominantly an email service, the nurses may need to telephone in response to some enquiries.
We're looking for experienced, enthusiastic Colorectal Nurse Specialists to join our existing team to expand the service. The successful applicants will work along side our existing Ask the Nurse Clinical Nurse Specialist and will play a central role in supporting people affected bowel cancer. A full training programme will be provided with regular updates on treatment and service developments.

If you're a CNS who'd like to work with us to deliver this service for those affected by bowel cancer, please contact Claire Coughlan, Clinical Lead at claire.coughlan@bowelcanceruk.org.uk for a further discussion around the scope and development of the service.
Application will be by CV and a draft answer to the following example question, which is a typical question received by the Ask the Nurse service:
- I've had surgery for rectal cancer and had to have chemotherapy. It hasn't worked and my scan has shown cancer in my lymph nodes and liver. My oncologist has said that there's no further treatment available but I've read that some people have been offered other treatments, what might they be and how can I get a second opinion?
Based on the draft answer and relevant experience, applicants will be invited to attend an online informal interview.
Please send your CV and response to the example question above, to jobs@bowelcanceruk.org.uk.
