Book a talk
Hosting a bowel cancer awareness talk in your workplace or community group is an ideal way to raise awareness of the UK’s second biggest cancer killer and encourage good bowel health.
We give free 30 minute talks to the private, public and voluntary sectors and our programme has been recognised with a prestigious award from the Royal Society of Public Health.
Would you like to host an awareness talk?
Our trained volunteers across the UK have personal experience of bowel cancer and present the facts about the disease as well as highlighting their own experiences. Talks are given to community groups, workplaces, or anywhere an existing group comes together. Our talk covers:
- Signs and symptoms
- Risk factors
- Healthy lifestyle and bowel cancer prevention
- Bowel cancer screening
Your Bowel Health
Your Bowel Health is a new sort of bowel cancer awareness talk, and has already been used successfully by the Charity. It is an interactive and practical approach, aiming to empower people to feel more confident in their knowledge of bowel cancer symptoms, risk and screening.
Your Bowel Health brings together the knowledge and experiences of people from different walks of life, so everyone knows that their contribution is valuable and useful, and people can learn from one other.
The talk facilitator explains some of the facts about bowel cancer, and then leads open discussions about the symptoms and how individuals can reduce their risk of developing the disease, encouraging the group to think about small, manageable changes they could make in their daily lives.
The session is fully interactive: various practical and talking exercises are used to generate discussions about risk-increasing behaviours and how these can be managed. We believe that by giving people space to openly discuss the symptoms of bowel cancer and personal risk reduction, they will be more likely to take suggestions on board.
The acilitator goes through (allowing for questions) the importance and process of the bowel cancer screening kit. Your Bowel Health is designed to be delivered to people of any age, as it is intended that after the talk, participants will pass on what is discussed during the session with other members of their families and communities, particularly those of screening age.
The session runs for one hour and a half to two hours, depending on the size of the group.

Today’s sessions went extremely well… there was a good deal of engagement and the feedback was positive. We had a few people coming forward with symptoms who are now going to make appointments for check-ups, that is a great result! Talk host, Renfrewshire
