Beating bowel cancer together

Stars come out in support of us and raise funds

Several high profile celebrities are stepping out this Friday 11 September in support of Bowel Cancer UK, as the charity participates in the 11th annual BGC Charity Day.

Internationally renowned British actors Tom Hardy and Charlotte Riley will be joined by TV presenter Dermot O'Leary, known to millions as the former host of The X Factor.  They will be standing by the phones at the BGC London headquarters in Canary Wharf, ready to support the team and help raise valuable funds for Bowel Cancer UK.

Every year, BGC Partners and Cantor Fitzgerald, in conjunction with the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund, commemorate their 658 friends, colleagues, and the 61 Eurobrokers employees, who perished on September 11 2001 by distributing 100% of the revenue raised to the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund and charities around the world, among them, for the first time, Bowel Cancer UK.

As the UK's second biggest cancer killer, bowel cancer afflicts many.  Every year, 41,500 people in the UK are diagnosed with bowel cancer and more than 16,000 people die of the disease.? Bowel Cancer UK is determined to save lives and improve the quality of life for all those affected by bowel cancer.

Dermot O'Leary said, "Someone is diagnosed with bowel cancer every fifteen minutes in the UK.  That's why I'm supporting Bowel Cancer UK, by helping them to raise funds at the BGC Charity Day, if I can make a difference, that would be amazing."

Deborah Alsina, Chief Executive of Bowel Cancer UK, said," We are incredibly grateful to Tom, Charlotte and Dermot for offering their support to Bowel Cancer UK for the BGC Charity Day.  While we're a small charity, we have big ambitions.  Having such high profile backing will make a huge difference to us in raising awareness of bowel cancer which is preventable, treatable and curable if diagnosed sufficiently early."

Tom Hardy has had a glittering acting career which was launched with a television debut in 2001 in Band of Brothers.  He went on to appear in Star Trek: Nemesis and Bronson before a breakthrough role in 2010 in Inception, which brought Tom international recognition and acclaim.  His most recent project has been the gangster film Legend, where Tom plays the characters of both Ronnie and Reggie Kray, released in UK cinemas on Wednesday 9th September.

Tom will be joined at the BGC Charity Day by actress Charlotte Riley, who made her name starring alongside Tom in ITV's Wuthering Heights.  Charlotte has since appeared in Peaky Blinders and most recently BBC drama Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. Last year saw her in Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise , her latest film, action thriller London Has Fallen, is set to be released in January 2016.  Charlotte recently finished filming Stephen Poliakoff's latest project for the BBC,Close to the Enemy.

Dermot O'Leary's television and radio work has made him a household name.   In March this year, Dermot danced for a very inspiring, and very long, 24 hours for Comic Relief.  The public really got behind him, and his sore feet, raising over a million pounds for the charity.

Dermot is best known for his role of hosting ITV 1's The X Factor, having presented eight concurrent series.  This is all alongside hosting his own multi award-winning BBC Radio 2 show every Saturday, known for its solid support of new and emerging bands, many of whom get their big break on the show.
