New animation teaches the key facts about bowel cancer
Monday 5 July 2021
This week is Health Information Week, and we've produced a new animation to highlight the key facts about bowel cancer.
Through the video, you'll find out about common symptoms of bowel cancer, reducing your risk, the bowel cancer screening programme and how we can help anyone affected by the disease.
The short animation, which is just over four minutes long, has been developed for use by companies and individuals to help raise awareness of bowel cancer and educate people about the disease.
Rose Stone, Head of Services at Bowel Cancer UK, says: "More than 42,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year in the UK, making it the fourth most common cancer.
"Nearly everyone survives bowel cancer if diagnosed at the earliest stage, however this drops significantly as the disease develops. Early diagnosis really does save lives. By watching our animation you can find out more about bowel cancer and the signs to look out for, as well as information on the bowel cancer screening programme and how we can support you and your loved ones following a diagnosis."
Educating patients, the public and healthcare professionals about bowel cancer is a vital part of our work. If you’d like to find out more about bowel cancer, we can provide help and support, including:
- Our symptoms diary, pioneered by Beth Purvis, and endorsed by the Royal College of GPs. The diary has space for you to note down your symptoms and other information before visiting your doctor
- We provide free online bowel cancer awareness talks to workplaces and community groups in all four nations of the UK. Book a talk here
- Free leaflets and posters raising awareness of bowel cancer and screening
- We also support people living with bowel cancer every step of the way:
- Contact our nurses with any questions or concerns you have about bowel cancer
- Visit our online community for people affected by the disease. It's a welcoming place to ask questions, read about people's experiences and support each other
- Get support from other people living with bowel cancer through Chat Together, our online support groups
- Listen to our podcast where BBC's George Alagiah interviews supporters and leading experts on the disease, as well as discussing his own treatment and diagnosis
- Read our Real Life Stories of people affected by bowel cancer
It doesn't matter whether you're a private, public, or third sector organisation, or if you're a local community group, we can support you.
