New toolkit launched for community pharmacies in Wales

We’ve worked in partnership with community pharmacy staff in Wales to create a free toolkit to help promote early diagnosis of bowel cancer and encourage uptake of bowel cancer screening.

Our free toolkit provides everything community pharmacy staff need to help improve bowel cancer awareness within their community. Including:

• Bowel cancer awareness materials
• Information to give to customers on bowel cancer and bowel cancer screening
• A sample bowel cancer screening kit and instructions for demonstration

Pharmacies can play an essential role in supporting early diagnosis. At the forefront of healthcare and often the first port of call, pharmacy teams are ideally placed to raise awareness about bowel cancer – in particular the symptoms and the NHS Bowel Screening Programme.

We've also produced a free short course for community pharmacy staff in Wales, available in English and Welsh. Taking just one hour to complete, our online course will help pharmacy staff understand the symptoms of bowel cancer, prevention advice, the importance of taking part in bowel screening, as well as facts and figures about the disease and the impact of COVID-19 on bowel cancer services in Wales.
