Help us to stop bowel cancer

Celebrating Volunteers' Week

Today (1 June 2016) marks the beginning of Volunteers’ Week. The week, which this year runs until 12 June, is an annual celebration of the amazing time and support millions of people give to charities across the UK.

We are delighted to be taking this opportunity to thank and celebrate our fantastic volunteers who dedicate so much of their free time to work with us over a range of activities including delivering awareness talks, holding information stands, providing administrative support and manning cheering stations at our events. Without their vital and continued support, it would not be possible for us to promote bowel cancer awareness to as many people as we currently do.

One of our volunteers Mairead said: “I wanted to do something that would utilise my existing skills and that involved something that I feel passionate about.  My husband died from bowel cancer before he was fifty and I am very keen to raise awareness of the disease particularly in younger people who can make changes to their lifestyles and make a difference to their health”.

Over 21 million people volunteer in the UK at least once a year and this contributes an estimated £23.9bn to the UK economy.  This year, Volunteers’ Week has been extended from 1-12 June, to include a celebration of Her Majesty the Queen’s lifetime of service to more than 600 charities and organisations on her 90th birthday on 12 June.

There are lots of ways you can support us. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer here is some information on how you can get involved.  To apply, download and complete the application form and email volunteer@bowelcanceruk.org.uk
