Musical and dancing stars line up for Charity Ball

Local residents are being invited to enjoy an evening of music and dancing in support of Bowel Cancer UK. The event aims to raise awareness of the condition particularly amongst young professionals from ethnic minority communities.

The Sapphire Ball will be at The Millennium Gloucester Hotel and Conference Centre, Kensington, on August 28, from 6.30pm, with a luxury three-course meal and drink included.

Tickets cost £75 before August 14 or £80 afterwards.

The night will include entertainment from Sky's 'Got to Dance' Trilogy Street Dance Crew, live music from a professional cellist, a Sitar and Tabla performance , Indian Kathak Dance and upcoming artist OkobiO as well as a charity auction and speeches. There will be an African photography exhibition and a photography booth available.

One of the Ball's organisers, Amaka Ogeah, an investment banker from Sutton, lost her father Dr John Ogeah, a Croydon General Practitioner to bowel cancer in 2007. Amaka said, "Sadly cancer affects everyone but we hope that by hosting The Sapphire Ball we'll be helping raise awareness of cancer amongst ethnic minority communities in which uptake of services is lower. Also it will be a fun evening with some fantastic musical entertainment planned, so please buy a ticket today and help support Bowel Cancer UK!"

The theme of this year's ball, Sapphire, has been chosen to support the bowel cancer awareness blue ribbon initiative and all funds raised will be split between Bowel Cancer UK and MacMillan Cancer Support.
