Bid to play with Notts cricketers at charity match

Enthusiastic bowlers and batsmen have the exclusive opportunity to bid for the chance to play alongside Notts cricketers for the team captain's annual cricket match in aid of Bowel Cancer UK.

Organised by Chris Read, Bowel Cancer UK Patron, the highest lucky bidders will join eight professionals from the side. Members of the public can place a minimum bid of £100 until 8th July for one of a limited number of places*. As well as a chance to take part in and watch the match, there will be something for the whole family including a variety of food stalls and a raffle.

English cricketer Chris Read said "This match promises to be an amazing day for keen cricketers and their families. It's also a chance to raise awareness of the disease and funds for Bowel Cancer UK. Bowel cancer often affects men, yet many don't bother having the signs and symptoms checked out. So please bid generously!"

Captain Chris Read hopes to raise £10,000 from this year's match, with funds going to the charity to help raise awareness of the symptoms of the disease. If you would like to help Chris reach his fundraising target, visit http://www.justgiving.com/pro-am-charitycricketmatch

This year's pro 20:20 cricket match match will be held at Car Colston Cricket Club on Tuesday 9th August.

* Email lou@thechrisreadcricketacademy.com with your bid and to find out further details about the event.

About Bowel Cancer:
Bowel cancer, also known as colorectal cancer, is the second most common cause of cancer death in the UK. There are around 40,000 cases of bowel cancer diagnosed each year with approximately 16,250 deaths. New treatments and techniques have made it a survivable disease if a bowel cancer sufferer is diagnosed early enough.

About Chris Read:
Chris has supported the charity since 2007 when he ran the New York Marathon in honour of his first cricket coach, Trevor Ward, who died of the disease. He has also previously helped to raise the profile of bowel cancer during BCAM, and in 2009 generously donated a percentage of his benefit year to the charity.

He has played for Devon (1995-1997), Gloucestershire (1997) and Nottinghamshire (1998-present) as well as nationally for England (test debut 1 July 1999 v New Zealand, last test 5 Jan 2007 v Australia).
