Linfield FC raises £5,525.50 for Bowel Cancer UK

Thursday, February 02, 2012

On Saturday 28th January, Belfast's Linfield FC presented a cheque for the value of £5,525.50 to Bernadette McKinley, Health Promotion Officer with Bowel Cancer UK.

The funds were raised by the whole team - that's 35 players and staff - who got sponsored to not shave for a month.  The team were inspired to raise the funds for Bowel Cancer UK as player, Jim Ervin's father, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2010.

At the cheque presentation, Bernadette said "We're really grateful to the whole team at Linfield FC for raising these funds.  Bowel cancer is NI's second biggest killer, but if diagnosed early, it is very treatable.  Funds like this enable us to continue to save lives by raising awareness of the disease."
