Follow up after Treatment for Bowel Cancer

Follow up after treatment for bowel cancer varies according to the hospital guidelines and consultant's follow up procedure, and from patient to patient.

It is common to have an outpatient's appointment around six weeks after surgery. Follow up tests and investigations include blood tests, scans (CT) and colonoscopy.

People who have been treated for bowel cancer will get common minor ailments like anyone, but should consult with their GP if symptoms persist and/or are unusual.

Patients undergoing chemotherapy will be advised to seek medical advice if they develop a fever or any other symptom they are not expecting.
