Clinical and Health Promotion Volunteer Internship

This post is based in the London office and you will report to the Head of Clinical and Care Services and Specialist Support Nurses.


Period: 3 - 6 months


About you:

You will be educated to degree level in public health or related area, looking to gain experience in health and clinical services within the charity sector. You must be available for a minimum of 21 hours per week and have a genuine interest in the aims and objectives of Bowel Cancer UK.


The role:

· Assisting in the development and research of resources for the Specialist Nurses

·      Development of the database used by the Specialist Nurses and collation of reports

·      Organisation and attendance at community and health information events as required

·      Development of contact lists/database  of Nationwide Cancer Networks, CNS's, Screening Hubs, Screening Centre's and SSP's

·      Assisting with updating health professionals and supporter records on Raiser's Edge (database)

·      Ability to undertake clinical research projects independently, supervised by the Head of Clinical and Care Services

· Researching, selecting, monitoring and disseminating health related news and research for the Clinical and Care Services

·      Administrative support for the Bowel Cancer UK Patient Community

·      Assisting the Specialist Nurses respond to literature requests from Patients, Carers and health professionals

·      Other general administrative duties when required


Person Specification:

· Educated to degree level in a relevant subject e.g. public health

· Some experience of working in an office environment and/or a public facing role would be an advantage

· A bright, engaging manner with the confidence and ability to deal with people at all levels

· Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate well via the telephone

· A team player with the ability to think creatively and contribute ideas to planning and discussion sessions

· Ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively and prioritise workload

· IT literate with a working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook and the internet

· Ability to deal with Patients' personal information in a sensitive and confidential manner
